RESEARCH INTERESTS
I am concentrating on applied medical anthropology and am working with the Tampa General
Hospital Emergency Department as a graduate assistant in the Social Emergency Medicine
Division. My work is focused on creating malleable pathways of care and support for
getting incarcerated patients treated for Hepatitis C.
My research interests include healthcare structures and pathways, emergency medicine,
patient advocacy, healthcare policy, infectious diseases, and substance use disorder.
What is applied anthropology to me?
Applied anthropology is simply doing something that others have not been yet able
to. Sometimes communities do not have resources, either historically, systemically,
economically, politically, or a combination of all the above, and applied anthropologists
ethically integrate within these communities to try to do better. Applied anthropology
gives you a skillset to critically, efficiently, objectively, and humanely assess
a variety of societal dilemmas.
