Dr. Ly Dinh’s research in crisis informatics and large-scale text data analytics was recently recognized internationally, with the paper “From Plan to Practice: Interorganizational Crisis Response Networks from Governmental Guidelines and Real-World Collaborations During Hurricane Events” ranked among the top 10 most-cited papers published in 2024 by the Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management. The study examined how government emergency response plans compare to actual collaboration networks formed during hurricane events, using network science and large-scale social media and crisis communication data. Building on this work, Dr. Dinh later adapted the project’s code and methods support the successful , where participants learned how to collect, process, and analyze crisis text data using NLP and large language models (LLMs). The workshop focused on practical AI methods for crisis informatics research, disaster communication analysis, and emergency response monitoring using real-world data.
