Recipients represented a broad range of disciplines and expertise across seven colleges and ten departments, with research spanning air transportation, behavioral therapies, diagnostic technologies and multidisciplinary artistic work, reflecting the breadth of scholarship across both scientific and creative fields.

Two USF Students Named 2026 Goldwater Scholars
Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing student Caleb Fernandes and USF College of Arts and Sciences student Diya Upadhyaya — both third-year students in the Judy Genshaft Honors College — were awarded the honor, which is considered the nation’s highest for undergraduate research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Tracking decades of ecological changes in South Florida’s marine environment
Di Geronimo’s research is part of the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON), a nation-wide collaboration that aims to measure and improve the health of ocean ecosystems. Every seven weeks for the past 10 years, the Southeast MBON regional partners have used regular cruises to gather samples and many different types of data. The specialized techniques that are used by the science teams allow researchers to track biological changes off the coast of Florida that are invisible any other way.
