USFID vs. NETID

Before accessing university systems, its important to understand your student identification and login credentials. At USF, youll use both a USF ID (USFID) and a NetID for different purposes.

  • USF ID (USFID), or U Number: Your USFID is your personal student identification number. It appears below your photo on your USF ID card. (Ex: U12345678)
  • NetID: Your NetID is your username for accessing university systems, including USF email, Student Self-Service, and Canvas. (Ex: rockydbull; rockydbull@usf.edu).

Important Note: Social Security Numbers are no longer used as student ID numbers. All students have been assigned a USFID.


How to Look Up or Activate Your NetID

  1. Go to
  2. Select Activate your NetID
  3. Follow the prompts using the email address you used for your application
  4. Once completed, your NetID will be ready to use.
