Graduate Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships are awarded on an annual basis, with appointments for the upcoming academic year offered each Spring semester. These 9-month academic year part-time instructional jobs come with a biweekly stipend, health insurance, and a tuition waiver which covers all tuition costs. Students pay university fees. A breakdown of graduate tuition and fee costs can be found here.
All applicants to our PhD program are automatically considered for a graduate assistantship and do not need to fill out a separate application. Students admitted to our doctoral program are typically offered a graduate assistantship that is guaranteed for their first four years in the program.
Our school also employs a small number of MA-level graduate assistants. All SIGS MA program applicants are automatically considered for graduate assistantship positions during the admissions process. International applicants must submit relevant English-proficiency scores, which can be found here, to be considered for a graduate assistantship. Once a student is hired as a graduate assistant, SIGS typically employs them continuously during the fall and spring semesters until they complete their MA program so long as they make steady academic progress and maintain strong work performance.
