Student Outreach and Support (SOS) provides non-clinical case management and support services. While SOS staff work closely with students to help them navigate challenges and connect with resources, they are not counselors or healthcare providers, and case management is not a form of therapy or clinical treatment.
SOS follows the privacy guidelines established by the . In most situations, student information cannot be shared with parents or individuals outside the university without the student's written consent, unless there is a health or safety concern or another FERPA-permitted exception.
Under FERPA, SOS may share relevant information with university officials on a legitimate educational need-to-know basis to coordinate support and promote student success. Information is shared only when necessary and limited to what is appropriate for the situation.
Faculty and staff who are concerned about a student are encouraged to contact SOS. FERPA permits university employees to share information when there is a legitimate educational interest in supporting a student's well-being, safety, or academic success.
